The new Mercedes-Benz GLA has the characters of a true SUV and a sporting soul but is wrapped in a compact footprint. It is agile, adventurous and is able to adapt well to a variety of driving conditions. While it does not have trouble fitting in the big city, it is also eager and perfect in the suburbs.

As an entry-level luxury compact crossover, the 2020 Infiniti QX30 looks great largely because it shares its underpinnings with the classy GLA. Design & Style

The iconic grille is not the only thing that’s making the GLA stand out. The taut and muscular exterior looks even more formidable with either 18-inch or 19-inch wheels. The chrome and aluminum accents add more elegance to the bumpers and the roof. The ergonomic design allows the GLA to slip through the wind quietly. Although it has a sensible footprint, the cabin conceals a generous legroom and headroom.

Some people say that there are striking similarities between the QX30 and the GLA. They may have the same dramatic curves and proportions but what it failed to replicate is the posh interior of the GLA. The dashboard looks aged even with the new knobs and buttons that are also based on the GLA’s infotainment system.

Technology & Safety

The new GLA is surrounded with advanced technologies that are meant to entertain and connect. There is a large 8-inch color display that gives vivid and sharp graphics. Smartphones may be connected through Bluetooth® and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Radars are also used to serve as virtual eyes on the road to spot hazards and reduce collisions.

The QX30 comes with a fair amount of tech features for its infotainment. The sound system is good although it offers a few adjustments. The graphics on its display look a bit dated too.

Performance

The GLA has minimal appetite for fuel but the 2.0-liter turbocharged 208 hp is more than sufficient at giving a noteworthy performance. The transmission is smooth and refined. It also shifts precisely and much faster than a human can. The GLA also has an Off-Road mode that makes it more than capable to take the car literally anywhere.

Just like the GLA, the QX30 is powered by a 208 hp engine. Instead of a powerful performance, however, it has a lazy transmission that hinders speed and fast acceleration.

The Bottom Line

The 2020 Infiniti QX30 may have shared characteristics with the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA but it failed to deliver a premium output. It is not as stylish or as advanced as the GLA and it certainly is not great in terms of performance.
